My Teaching Philosophy
There are many things that are desirable about becoming an educator, but there are a few core beliefs that allowed me to choose this life path for myself and values I will carry into the classroom with me. I believe in an student-based classroom: One that is reflective of the individuals learning within it. I want the unique identities of my classroom of learning to be embedded in the lessons, the materials, the assessment and the environment. That may look like a family wall with direct connections to my students, or within books that explore many walks of life - I want all my students to feel seen and honoured within our shared learning space. This mindset takes a lot of effort to fulfill this in reality, but I am prepared to take on every challenge and task that it takes to bring this dream to life. I will have to get to know my students in all aspects, including getting to know who the students are, the resources and knowledge they bring into the classroom, their learning styles and their strengths. We must have a mindset that thoroughly believes that we learn just as much from the students as they do us. By getting to know our students we are better able to create a reflective environment, prepare reflective lessons and become an adaptive teacher for the needs of the individual learners we are learning alongside.
I believe educating my students on equality and equity. I want my students to see their peers, community members and those around the world as their equals, regardless of the similarities or differences within their identities. I want the students to have learning opportunities to explore and create language to describe their own identities, including our shared identity of being treaty people (living and learning on treaty land). While simultaneously educating the students the diverse identities that we share our world with and respectful language to discuss diversity. As an educator, I know that a part of my job is preparing my students to be lifelong learners and successful adults. Within my classroom, I will provide my students with real-life experiences that will allow them to have the tools to be efficient individuals throughout their lives in all aspects. This would include real-life examples/learning opportunities in all subjects (e.g., physical education, health, mathematics and so on).

My Dream Classroom
I had the opportunity to create my dream classroom within my anti-bias education course (ECE 325). Please browse the following document to get a better insight of some of the values I hope to bring into my future classroom (physically and lessons learnt from the materialistic world). Please note that the following classroom description is aimed for early learning or a K classroom.
